Every year, for my birthday, my boyfriend takes us on vacation. This year we decided on our biggest adventure yet; a trip across the Atlantic to explore France. Our plan was to spend a few days in Paris, and then shoot down to the French Riviera for the second half of the week. Little did I know that he had bigger plans in mind...
At sunrise on August 27, 2018 we took a short walk from our hotel to the Trocadero. He told me that would be the best time to take some pictures for my blog, and it would be the least busy time of the day in the overcrowded tourist location. I was very jetlagged and really dragging my feet that morning thinking man, there’s also a ‘golden hour’ in the evening why cant we do it then?
We took a few pictures, waited around because so many other couples had been up early taking engagement photos and some were even taking Christmas photos in August with Santa hats and all! We then walked around aimlessly, and I was a little annoyed because HB was not taking as many pictures as I had expected for someone who had me up at the crack of dawn. He also hadn’t shaved and was dressed completely casual so I was like “ugh, how are we going to take some photos together?” We then walked down the huge steps that lead toward the fountains in front of the Trocadero and set up to take some photos together. There I was just posing for my shots while I waited on him to come get in some. We took some regular shots and then I decided to give him a hug and be done with the ‘photo shoot’ that’s when he got down on one knee and popped the question! Of course, I said YES! but the surprises kept coming.
He let me know that we also had a photoshoot with a great photographer, Rachael Laporte who he had hired via Flytographer to get our engagement photos done right away. How amazing to not only get engaged in the city of love but to also have your engagement photos done there too. Our photos turned out to be some of the most beautiful photographs I’ve ever seen. Some of our photos were taken at the Trocadero, along the water, and my favorite ones were on the Pont de Bir-Hakeim bridge, which little fun fact is the same bridge from the movie Inception, one of my favorite films. It was the absolute most perfect day I could have ever asked for.
HB went above and beyond to propose to me, something he doesn’t just do on special occasions but something he has done for me every day for the last three years. I had to pinch myself so many times. How many people get proposed to in front of the Eiffel Tower with the dreamiest ring they’ve ever seen? Sure, a lot of people but how many do you know personally? For me it was always a dream, something I would see on Pinterest and just day dream about. When I was younger people would tell me, ‘be realistic that only happens in the movie’. Well, it happened to me and it’s the most beautiful love story I’ve heard of yet and it’s our love story. One we will tell our child, and grandchildren to come.
