Milky Bun vs. Creamy Bun

Are you a dessert lover like Honey Bun? He will say he doesn’t even like sweets but nothing sweet ever lasts in this house because of him…LOL! So, if you do then let me tell you about my two very favorite places to get dessert in Los Angeles, and both are located in Pasadena. The first one you might have heard of before; Afters Ice Cream. They are known for warm glazed or non-glazed doughnuts filled with signature ice cream flavors. The second place is called Bengees, and it’s the same concept except instead of a doughnut they offer glazed or non glazed Cronuts.

If you asked me which one is my favorite, I honestly don't know. They are BOTH so good. I really can't decide between the two. The customer service at both locations is great and the ice cream flavors are also delicious. Afters for the most part always has a line because there is so much hype on social media about their Milky Buns. I’ve found the perfect time to go, and I'm not trying to have you crowding up my time slot, so don't ask! Hahaha. I would like to tell you I’ve tried all the flavors but let's be real, I don’t like change. I order the same exact thing every time I go. A glazed Milky Bun with Cookie Monster ice cream and cookie crisp as my topping. Honey Bun likes to switch it up and has tried so many more flavors than I but I believe his favorite is Churro ice cream on a non glazed bun. Afters also has cups and cones if you're not down to try the famous Milky Bun, but I highly recommend trying it at least once. The first time you try it you may be like me and not be a huge fan. I remember the first time I had it I was like, "This is gross it, tastes like a stale doughnut with ice cream." But every time after that it’s been soooo good. I especially like it when the doughnuts are so HOT and fresh out of the oven. If I had to rate on a scale of 1 to 5 I would give them a 4 just because the buns aren’t always hot lol!

Now the second place, Bengees. How we found this place I have no idea. One day HB just took me here and I was excited because I’ve wanted to have a GOOD cronut for once. The only one I had ever had was from Mr. Holmes and it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever had. Bengees couldn't possible be worse than that, and believe me it wasn't! I ordered a ‘Creamy Bun’ with white chocolate chip ice cream, white chocolate drizzle and sprinkles. It did not disappoint I liked that the pastry was so HOT and covered in glaze. They also have some unique ice cream flavors like pistachio and green tea, as well as the classics like chocolate and vanilla. Flavors seem to change pretty often, so there is always something new to try. I liked that you can actually go inside because at Afters you just stand outside a little window in the sun. It was very clean inside and I could watch them make my bun. I would rate Bengees a 4 out of 5 as well only because they don’t have as much variety flavor wise.
