Summer Struggles

It’s summer, which means, more sun, pool parties, beach bonfires and along with all of that fun comes dry skin and dry hair! If you’re anything like me, you love summer but hate the terrible things it brings to your skin and hair. It’s all fun and games until my hair feels crunchy and my skin is peeling, noooo! So, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite hair and skin must haves to help you survive the rest of the summer.

For my skin, which is not oily but not really dry either (unless it’s summer), I love to use Neutrogena Hydro Boost. It’s like giving your face a tall drink of water while also feeling super refreshing. I apply a small quarter sized amount right before bed, which goes a long way, and if applied daily it will keep your face soft and smooth. If you pair this with a good moisturizer for the morning you are sure to win the battle against dry skin! For first time buyers you might see the price and much like myself think, is it worth it? Well, I’m telling you it is worth the $18!

The moisturizer I like to pair it with is, Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Daily Moisturizer With Sunscreen Broad Spectrum Spf 30 ($17). It is silky and moves easily so you won’t need to use too many pumps. The price of this specific moisturizer is a little steep but compared to the one I used to use (Aveeno® Positively Radiant® Daily Moisturizer With Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 $12) this Aveeno Ageless really keeps your face feeling silky “like a babies butt,” as my mother would say. With the Positively Radiant moisturizer I found myself using 3-4 PUMPS A DAY!! I was spending more on restocking then I do buying this one small bottle of Aveeno Ageless, which seems to last FOREVER.

Now lets talk hair! In the summer I spend most of my time in swimming pools and my hair is bleached blonde, so you can imagine how dry it gets. First off, I’d love to thank my hairdresser Amber, who has worked miracles on my hair and is always keeping me updated on the latest and greatest for blonde hair. While in the shower I use a Nou Nou Hair Mask by Davines ($25) once a week after I thoroughly shampoo my hair. Once out of the shower I apply It’s a 10 with Keratin Leave In Spray. It helps fight frizz, detangle and repair damaged dry hair. Be sure to check Nordstrom Rack where you can get a large bottle for the regular price of the small bottle. Lastly once my hair is nearly dry I top it off with OGX Renewing Plus Argan Oil of Morocco, this spray restores moisture, protects against UV damage and helps repair split ends. This spray can be purchased at Target for around ($6).

This is my routine for my hair during the hot summer months, give it a try if you’d like and let me know if it works for you too!
